Company fundraising programs that successfully helped raise thousands of dollars for United Way around the holidays. They worked for us, and they can work for you too!
We really love fundraising – not only helping others plan their fundraising campaigns, but actually raising funds for good causes. At Christmas time, we raised $14,000 for United Way. How did we do it? We planned out a variety of charity fundraising activities that took place over a period of a month.
We started with Friday as “Jeans Day”. Whoever wanted to wear jeans on Friday had to pay $5. This was quite a treat for us, as we all love to wear our jeans!!! So basically, we had a choice: we could either pay $130 to wear our jeans 8 times (which we could deduct off our pay over the period of one year), or only get to wear our jeans 3 times and pay $5 each time. We raised quite a bit of money with this.
We also had a Silent Auction. We contacted our suppliers and asked them if they had any promotional items left over from the year that they could donate to us. Believe it or not, we got quite a few donations. We then gathered all the donated items and set them up in our conference room, with a bidding sheet for each item. Over a two-day period, people were checking out the items and bidding. The one with the highest bid at the end took the item home! There were definitely some heated moments as quite a few people were outbidding each other. The most coveted items that generated a lot of bids were the tall beer glasses and the book about wine cellars. It turned out to be a very successful (and fun) charity fundraising idea.
The Half and Half turned out to be a gold mine. It’s kind of like a company lottery. We could buy tickets, either 1 for $2, or 3 for $5, or 6 for $10. It doesn’t sound like much, but in a company of over 100 people, it all adds up. Then the winning number got to keep half of the money raised, and the other half went to United Way.
The Bake Sale generated a lot of excitement. We were competing as to who could whip up the best dessert! One of our employees makes the best Peaches & Cream Pie…everyone was rushing to buy a piece. We also had some gourmet, mouth-watering cupcakes and pastries…mmmmm…just thinking about it makes us want to do another charity fundraiser! On top of this, we also got our corner coffee shop to donate coffee. We sold the coffee alongside our goodies and this sure helped raise some extra funds!
We try to raise as much money as we can every Christmas for United Way through our company fundraising efforts. The goal every year is to raise more money than the year before. So far, we have done just that.
